WWE 2K14 is scheduled to launch on October 29, Take-Two Interactive confirmed in its fiscal year 2013 financial report. Take-Two snagged the rights to the WWE franchise in February, through a deal that went down before THQ’s public bankruptcy auction in January. The deal gives Take-Two exclusive rights to publish WWE games “across all major platforms and distribution channels.”

WWE 2K14 is in production from series developer Yukes, based in Japan, and 2K Sports.

The Sony-managed website gran-turismo.com now features a product listing for the as-of-yet unannounced Gran Turismo 6. Currently, the link in question leads to its own unique (if empty) page; further URL manipulation produces generic results.

The discovery yields no details, but Sony is expected to announce a new entry in Polyphony Digital’s driving simulation series at an anniversary event tomorrow in the UK. Drivers, start your…waiting.

Greg “IdrA” Fields, a professional StarCraft player well-known in the community for getting way too angry when he loses games, was booted from his team Evil Geniuses yesterday.

Evil Geniuses, one of the biggest and most successful groups in the world of competitive video gaming, gave IdrA the boot for a comment he made on an Internet forum earlier this week. In response to a question, the longtime StarCraft veteran had cursed out a fan. (Screengrab via PCGamesN)

“Nope you’re all a bunch of fucks,” he wrote on Wednesday night. “It just so happens I get paid to treat you like it. It’s fucking awesome.”

For quite some time now, many have criticized IdrA for having a negative attitude toward other players and fans within the StarCraft community, but he has always been a fixture of the competitive scene surrounding Blizzard’s popular strategy game, which has become a multi-million dollar industry across the world. For the people at Evil Geniuses, this was one nasty comment too many.

“After having him on our roster for nearly three years, we have decided to release IdrA from the Evil Geniuses StarCraft 2 team,” wrote Evil Geniuses CEO Alexander Garfield on the team’s website yesterday.

“We have strict guidelines that regulate certain kinds of more extreme speech, and we take disciplinary action when those guidelines aren’t followed, but for the most part, we stay out of the way… This is why it was never really an issue for us that Greg can be rude to his opponents in games, or that he usually speaks his mind very bluntly and directly. But, to us, there’s a very big difference between a player being disrespectful to an opponent in a ladder match, and a player being disrespectful to the entire community of people who, via their own enthusiasm and passion for the entertainment product he creates, actually make his profession possible.

“The eSports industry, and companies like Evil Geniuses, would not be possible without the passion and support of our community. We, as a company, cannot and will not be supportive of anyone who does not show due respect and appreciation for the community that makes everything we do possible.”

This is major news in the world of StarCraft. Teams like Evil Geniuses are the lifeblood for professional eSports players: they pay out salaries, help players train, and generally keep everything organized for veterans’ day-to-day life.

While some fans can’t stand IdrA’s bad manners and perpetually negative attitude, others have defended him over the years. Many of his friends and fellow players reacted emotionally to the news last night: Evil Geniuses teammate Geoff “iNcontroL” Robinson was particularly affected.

The Netflix app on PS3 has been updated, bringing closer design parity with web and mobile applications to the PS3. Netflix has fixed audio stream and subtitle issues in this update, allowing users to fiddle with these while watching content. Before, you had to back out back to the front-end to enable subtitles. If you’ve got a PS3 Blu-ray remote, just hit the subtitles button to enable.

The “trickplay” component – a fancy term for fast-forwarding and rewinding through a particular program – has been tweaked to show more image still previews while scanning through content. You can also instantly rewind whatever you’re watching ten seconds by pressing left on the DualShock dpad or PlayStation remote.

Todd Miller is one of the men accused of being behind the 2008 PlayStation Network hacks. Last week he was sentenced to 12 months house arrest, but here’s the thing: authorities couldn’t prove he was involved.

Instead, the Columbus Dispatch reports, the sentence was handed out because Miller, having been interviewed by the FBI in 2011, went and smashed all his computers before they could return with a search warrant.

Because of this, they couldn’t prove he was involved in the hacks. So they nailed the 23 year-old with “obstructing a federal investigation” instead.

In addition to the house arrest, Miller – who has a ninth-grade education – was also ordered by the judge to complete a high school certificate.

Which is getting off lightly. He could have faced up to 20 years prison and a $250,000 fine.

EA Sports has announced the final sixteen players that have advanced to the next round of voting for NHL 14‘s cover. Each of the remaining players are lumped into a bracket format, competing head-to-head until the final match-up is decided and revealed during the 2013 Stanley Cup Final.

According to EA, more than 12 million votes have been cast in the competition’s first two rounds, “with daily vote totals up nearly 70% over the NHL 13 Cover Vote Campaign.”

Fans signed into their EA account can vote an unlimited number of times during this round until May 12 at 11:59pm ET. Votes can be doubled on Thursdays on Twitter and Instagram by using specific hashtags for each of the remaining players.

GameStop’s annual Expo event is set to return to Las Vegas on August 28. The event serves as a manager’s meeting for the chain, and as of last year the company has also opened the show to the public.

Expo 2013 will feature 250,000 square feet of exhibitions from 80 major game developers and publishers, and offer a look at Sony’s upcoming PlayStation 4.

Just like last year, general admission to the Sands Expo Center for the show costs $35. GameStop has knocked $10 off the VIP pass (which grants access to a special lounge, a swag bag, and panel discussions), which is now available for $90. GameStop is also giving away an all-expense-paid trip to one lucky PowerUp Rewards member who buys or trades something in the month of May.

Just like 2012, the show’s August 28 kickoff puts it right before PAX Prime in Seattle.
